It wasn’t expected, but GBSB Global Business School is thrilled to be named the champions of a football tournament hosted in Barcelona played by rival business schools. It was GBSB Global’s first year participating in the tournament and wow, did we make a showing! We are very proud of the team and all of the hard work and dedication they put in.
GBSB Global was one among a host of business schools in Barcelona to get involved. Other schools that took part in this extracurricular event were IESE Business School, ESADE, EAE, Toulouse Business School, EU Business School, EADA Business School and ESEI International Business School. GBSB Global played in the bracket against ESADE, EAE and EADA. The first matchup was against ESADE where we won 4-1. Again, GBSB Global was victorious against EAE, 6-1, and finally managed a draw with EADA, 1-1, in the last game.
Qualifying for the quarterfinal, GBSB Global matched up again EADA Latino, EADA’s second team that participated in the tournament and won the match, 4-2. Advancing to the semifinal, GBSB Global faced EADA’s third team 2-2, ultimately earning a win in penalties, 4-2. Geneva Business School, the reigning champions from last year, also made it to the finals squaring up against GBSB Global, they begrudgingly lost their title, 4-2.
While everyone on the team’s contributions were imperative, two individuals deserve recognition. GBSB Global’s top scorer of the tournament was Mostafa Tarek, a fierce striker that racked up 11 goals in the tournament, and Wassyem Amara, named the best overall player on the team, a great achievement.
GBSB Global’s Team was made up of a diverse group of individuals whose determined effort and athleticism made history.
